Here is a great article from Cosmic Log on the Mayan Calendar.

From Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 23, Mercury retrogrades through action-packed Aries. Then from Saturday, March 24 to Tuesday, April 3, it spins backward through intuitive Pisces.
As with every Mercury retro period, remember your “re” words. Repair. Review. Revise. Re-think. Rest. Relax. This is a good time to take a vacation, as long as you double-check your hotel and travel reservations. If you’re driving, make sure the car is tuned and the tank is filled. Back up your computer and phone, and charge your techno-gadgets. Most important: Slow Down. Any retrograde period makes us a little fuzzy-headed. This cycle is compounded by Mars, still retrograding through detail-obsessed Virgo, and Daylight Savings Time, which starts Sunday, March 11. You might feel jet-lagged for a few days. You and/or others could also be more critical and short-tempered. Act with restraint. Drive defensively. Argue fairly.
Until the 23rd, Uranus and retro Mercury share space in Aries. Uranus represents independence, revolution, and those “ah-ha” moments. When it rolls along with Mercury, you can expect all sorts of ideas to pop into your head. This retrograde helps set the stage for an inner shift that can help you to break free of the past and old behavior patterns that have held you back. It won’t be handed to you. Astrology trends show possibilities. You have to do the work.
Here’s a sign-by-sign look at this Mercury retrograde period:
ARIES: Don’t let your mouth run away with your brain. You’ll probably be full of great ideas. Write them down. Research them. Be very clear in every conversation and negotiation. Make sure others understand you, and that you understand them. Don’t spend money you don’t have or make promises you won’t be able to keep once the excitement wears off. It's a great time to plan your future.
TAURUS: Ideas become reality, especially under this dynamic sky. Be careful where you focus your attention. This is the best time all year to be introspective. Make time for solitude. Pay attention to your moods and how what you think can create them.
GEMINI: You can’t force an outcome, but you are good at shifting gears. Try a different approach to something that’s irking you. Looking at the issue from a different perspective helps solve the problem. Your creative forces can kick into high gear and you might think of a brilliantly simple money-making idea.
CANCER: You’re about to get a big shot of self-confidence. What you say during this retro period might shock a few people, but can also boost your professional or personal power. Just be prepared for all the attention you’re about to get.
LEO: You love new ideas, and a few are coming your way. Your challenge is to be willing to dump a habit that no longer works. Listening to your heart can set you on a path that not only brings success, but makes you happy too.
VIRGO: With Mars retrograding through your sign, you’re probably already dealing with self-confidence issues. Your survival skills and avoidance mechanisms may not be working. Mercury’s backward motion encourages you to dig deeper. It’s time to tell the truth—to yourself. With some honest soul-searching, you can find the courage to stand up for what you want and start on your escape route from some unhealthy behaviors and attitudes. A word of caution; don’t go off on a self-righteous rant.
LIBRA: Use this retrograde period to reflect on both your personal and professional relationships. You have a unique opportunity to redefine how you relate to others without losing yourself in the process. You also get a chance to practice being decisive without feeling guilty.
SCORPIO: It might not happen, but be prepared to catch a couple of curveballs this retro cycle could toss at you, especially at work. Don’t get nervous, surprise doesn’t always mean bad. You’re also in for a few self-awareness revelations. Welcome them. They can set you on the path to healing an old emotional wound or chronic physical ailment.
SAGITTARIUS: If you feel like an electric current’s running through your head, you’re right. You are hot-wired to the creative energy swirling through the Universe. The ideas could come so fast you’ll need to carry a voice recorder to capture them all. That’s why it’s crucial that you force yourself to rest during this retro period. You don’t want to short-circuit all the brain power you’re receiving now.
CAPRICORN: This is the time to think about what makes you feel secure. Love? Money? Friends and/or family? Concentrate. You’ll realize what’s nice to have, but not critical to your survival. You might discover that the only place you need to put your trust is in yourself.
AQUARIUS: Your energy levels are in high gear. So is your mouth. That’s okay. Even if you regret something you say while Mercury’s retro, if you censor yourself, you won’t say something that you’ve needed to express for too long.
PISCES: Broke is a financial condition. Poor is a state of mind. Mercury’s retrograde through your sign reminds you that it’s not about money. It’s about your self-esteem and self-confidence. Examine your personal assets. Not the house or car or savings account, your values. Judge yourself on who you are, not what you have.

I confess I hate Daylight Savings Time, and the fact that it keeps getting a longer share of the year. This year, it starts Sunday, 3/11. Here's an interesting article suggesting that the only thing it benefits is the bottom lines of retailers and oil companies. How do you feel about DST?

Click for an article on last night's huge solar flare. Good idea to back up your computers and other communication devices. What timing. The flare arrives just as Mercury's about to go retrograde. Woo. More on that later.

Thursday’s Full Moon in practical, helpful Virgo is opposite the imaginative Pisces Sun. This is the time to create a solid foundation for your desires by staying grounded in the reality that helps them come true. Creative ideas and inspiration are Pisces qualities. Planning and consistent work are Virgo qualities. The most inspired idea needs careful crafting. Research, set reachable goals, measure your progress, and be consistent in your work.
The nervous Virgo Moon is being jabbed by pesky Mars during this cycle, so try to avoid getting involved in petty, irritating issues that will only drain your energy.
Here’s a sign-by-sign look at how the Virgo Full Moon/Pisces Sun opposition can affect you:
Aries (March 20 - April 19) This Full Moon is in your Sixth house of work, health, and daily routines. Assess your overall health and tend to anything that needs attention. If you’re bored at work, check out workshops or additional training that can renew your enthusiasm. Or look for educational programs in a different field. Work smarter, not harder, to succeed.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20) The picky Virgo Full Moon lands in your Fifth house of romance. Look your best this weekend. You’ll boost your self-confidence which will make you more attractive to a potential new sweetheart. If you’re in a relationship, get dressed up and go on a date. Be careful how you express yourself to current or potential partners. Like anything else, love requires maintenance to keep the sparks flying.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20) Fourth house issues of home and family are your focus under the Virgo Full Moon. This is a good time to tighten relationships with your family members and/or start clearing the air about past misconceptions or misunderstandings. You may encounter some unfinished emotional business that you can finally settle. It’s a good time to rearrange the furniture, start your spring cleaning early, or clean a closet and donate the clothing you no longer want.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22) The Virgo Full Moon illuminates the way you communicate. You’re reminded to think about what you may want to tell someone, and how you say it. You’re usually guided by your emotions. This Full Moon can help you to organize your thoughts so you make a rational, not emotional argument. Empower yourself with clear thinking and well-chosen words.
Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22) It’s time to assess your cash flow as the practical Virgo Full Moon visits your Second house of money and values. Work on shaving costs off your expenses. Invest in yourself with training that can help your career. This is a good time to purchase tech-smart equipment that keeps you on the cutting edge of your profession—providing you can afford the payments. That’s key. Smart spending now can reap big profits in the future.
Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) The Full Moon in your sign, and First solar house of Self, reminds you that you are in charge of your life, even if a crisis erupts. You can’t change other people. You can change how you react to them, and take charge of your role within your relationships. No one else makes the choices. You do. This is a good weekend to enhance your appearance with a make-up lesson, new outfit, new hairstyle, or anything that makes you feel happy and attractive.
Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22) Your advice for the weekend is to get away from it all. Enjoy quiet time with or without a special person. The Virgo Full Moon is in your Twelfth house of privacy and the subconscious. Clear a few events off your calendar and relax. Meditate if you’re inclined. Take a walk or serene drive. Read. Let your mind drift. Your aim is to get in touch with yourself.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21) You like doing things in your own way, but the Virgo Full Moon in your Eleventh house of groups and friends, encourages you to be a team player. Do a mental checkup of how you’ve been interacting with the groups in your life. Try seeing another point of view. Doing your part to boost, not boss, the group, will help strengthen your ties.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) This Virgo Full Moon lands in your Tenth house of Career and Public, which could bring a hidden crisis to light. Maybe an overlooked detail or something you’ve tried to ignore at work rears its ugly head again. If you like what you do, take steps to improve how you do it. Talk over issues with your boss or someone who can offer solid advice. Hate your job? It’s time to start looking for a better one. Think about beginning the process of following a dream you’ve put on hold.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19) Business and/or educational travel is spotlighted under the Virgo Full Moon in your Ninth house. Spiritual or philosophical studies might appeal to you. If you aren’t in a position to get out of town to a seminar, check out online classes and education opportunities. This is a good weekend to set a few long-term goals.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18) The Virgo Full Moon is in your Eighth house of shared resources and closest relationships. Now’s not the time to assume you think you know everything about a business or personal relationship. Keep communication open and honest. You need the details before you can see the big picture.
Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 21)Your Seventh house of relationships comes under the scrutiny of this Virgo Full Moon. Flaws in an existing friendship, partnership, or relationship can be exposed. You might either be overly critical in your judgment or the victim of a nitpicky tirade. Whether you’re expressing your opinion or listening to someone else’s, your task is to state your feelings in a constructive way.

March is Women's History Month. Click here for information about women and their roles in history. There are many books that describe how women have suffered and triumphed throughout the ages. Here are a few titles that I've read or are on my list to read.
ROOTS OF BITTERNESS: Documents of the Social History of American Women. The title is a bit misleading, as this contains a rich history and variety of letters, diary excerpts, and personal stories.
FIRST GENERATIONS: Women in Colonial America shows that "though colonial women were separated by class, region, and race, they were linked by laws and presumptions that defined them by gender.
WITCH-HUNTING IN SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY NEW ENGLAND contains documented histories of the accusers, victims, and judges that participated in them. From the back cover, "The cases examined begin in 1638, extend to the Salem outbreak in 1692, and document for the first time, the extensive Stamford-Fairfield, Connecticut witch hunt of 1692-93.
WRITTEN BY HERSELF, is a two-book work of essays, memoirs, and stories of women by Jill Ker Conway. Vol I: Autobiograhpies of American Women: An Anthology. (I'm currently reading and loving it) Vol II: Women's Memoirs from Britian, Africa, Asia, and the United States.
WRITTEN BY HERSELF: Literary Production by African American Women, 1746-1892 by Francis Smith Foster documents the writings of black women during 18th and 19th century America.
A MIDWIFE'S TALE: The Life of Martha Ballard Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. Drawing on the diaries of a midwife and healer in eighteenth-century Main, this intimate history illuminates the medical practices, household economies, religious rivalries, and sexual mores of the New England frontier.
Read a book on women's contributions throughout history this month. Either buy online or visit your local library.

It's Leap Year and February 29 is Leap Day. Time is theme. You have an extra day this year. How will you use it? Even if you have to work that day, try to make a point of doing something that you never allow yourself time for.
This is a good week to think about how you use time in general. Are you in control or does it control you? Although time is an illusion created by humans, it was designed to help organize and account for our lives. Use yours wisely.

Monday and V-Day’s sensual Scorpio Moon sets the mood for a joined-at-the-hip celebration. You and your sweetheart might feel like staying home or reserving a table in the darkest corner of a restaurant or club. Scorpio’s energy is jealous and possessive, so try to remain calm if your love object receives Valentines from other admirers. If you’re not in a relationship, one might begin to simmer with a new acquaintance or a casual friend.
The fun-loving Sagittarius Moon speeds up the pace on Wednesday and Thursday. Round up your friends for a night out. Flirt with a cutie you’d like to know better. Jupiter rules Sagittarius and helps expand the mind and imagination. These are good days to think about where you want to be this time next year. An educational opportunity could pop up. You might decide to start saving for a special trip.
Friday and Saturday’s classy Capricorn Moon encourages you to do something a little selfish. Look for bargains on clothes and jewelry. Eat at a classy restaurant instead of the drive-through. Look your best wherever you go. You could bump into someone you’d like to impress.
Sunday’s analytical Aquarius Moon might make you question a recent decision. Make a list of possibilities before you change your mind.
Have a five-star week!
